Toyota Pre-Collision System

toyota collision

The Toyota Safety Sense™ safety suite has received high praise from Atlanta and Sandy Springs drivers and industry experts alike, and it’s not difficult to see why. This system includes a feature that tracks movement in your surroundings, and many intervene in order to prevent collisions. The Toyota Pre-Collision System is the most popular and uses a front-facing camera and laser to detect any objects in your path and sends an alert when it’s time to break. If necessary, it will bring your vehicle to a complete stop automatically.

How Does the Toyota Pre-Collision System Work?

Now that you know what the Toyota Pre-Collision system does, learn more about how it functions on your daily drives around the Smyrna area.

  • A Toyota model with the Pre-Collision System comes with a front-facing camera and an invisible laser.
  • It uses these elements to measure the distance between your car and the obstacle right in front of you.
  • Taking your speed into account, the system determines the likelihood of a collision.
  • If a collision is likely, your Toyota sends out an alert notifying you of the danger. You should manually apply the brake as soon as possible.
  • If you don’t slow or stop your vehicle, the Toyota Pre-Collision System may apply the breaks automatically or even use them at full force with brake assist.

There’s no substitution for safe, careful driving. Makes sure to always have both eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel.

Toyota Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection

There are several multiple versions of the Toyota Pre-Collision System. With Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS P) or Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 – with the most common version of the package–the Toyota Pre-Collision System also includes Pedestrian Detection.

In vehicles with Pedestrian Detection, an additional grille-mounted system uses millimeter-wave radar to check your surroundings for smaller objects, which the PCS might miss! By examining the size, shape, and motion of this smaller object, PD is able to identify vulnerable people and apply the brakes as necessary.

Which Toyota Models Offer the Pre-Collision System?

These days, when you’re driving around Kennesaw, you have access to the Toyota Pre-Collision System in a variety of new Toyota vehicles. For 2019 and 2020 model year vehicles, the PCS either comes standard or available in each of the vehicles mentioned below:

  • Crossovers, SUVs, and Minivans: C-HR, Land Cruiser, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid, Tundra, Sequoia, Tacoma, Sienna
  • Cars and Hatchbacks: Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Corolla, Corolla Hybrid, Prius, Prius Prime, Prius c, Yaris Hatchback

What Features Are Included with Toyota Safety Sense™?

Available features vary based on which model and model year Toyota vehicle you choose. This is because you have one of three available Toyota Safety Sense™ packages to get with the most recent version, Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 (TSS 2.0):

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD)
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)
  • Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
  • Automatic High Beams (AHB)
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) or Full-Speed Range DRCC
  • Road Sign Assist (RSA)

The Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS P) grouping includes most of the features listed above, minus LTA and RSA. Toyota Safety Sense™ C (TSS C) only includes PCS, LDA, and AHB, but there are only a few models that still offer this package. Speak with an expert before you buy to make sure that you’re getting all of the features you desire.
