Most drivers understand that the motor oil is the lifeblood of your Toyota vehicle, and it’s important to make sure you have the right amount to protect the engine’s internal moving parts. Whether you’re commuting to the Atlanta area or running errands in Marietta, you want a vehicle that’s safe to drive. Learn more about how to check car oil from the service team at Marietta Toyota.
Newer Toyota vehicles have electronic oil monitors that don’t use the normal dipsticks, so first check your owner’s manual for exact recommendations. If you are checking your vehicle’s oil manually, follow the steps below:
Dipsticks will have a way to show the correct oil level. If the top of the oil streak is between two marks or within a cross-hatched area, the oil level is healthy. If not, you will need to add more oil. When buying oil, get the recommended grade in the owner’s manual. Remove the oil filler cap and add oil a little at a time until the dipstick indicates that you are at the proper level.
Checking the oil level gets overlooked often, but having the correct level is essential in ensuring that your car is performing at its best. Typically, oil changes are recommended at least twice a year, depending on which car you have and how often you drive it. Oil checks are needed once a month to make sure there are no leaks and enough oil in your vehicle. With that said, if the hood is too hot to touch or steam is billowing out from under the hoods, schedule a service appointment right away. Your car could have an oil leak, and the engine is overheating.
At Marietta Toyota, we offer a rotating selection of service specials to help you save on your next appointment.
