Your Guide to the 2026 Toyota Tacoma Trims
Year after year, the Toyota Tacoma comes through as one of the most impressive midsize trucks on the market, and the 2026 model is no exception. This is a powerful and sophisticated truck that offers far more options and features than you might expect from this class of pickup. In fact, when you go looking for a Toyota Tacoma for sale, you’ll quickly discover that you have a couple of engines to choose from as well as eight different trim levels or grades. Considering some of these grades are available with either engine, you can actually end up looking at 11 different options without even considering other features. To keep this from getting too overwhelming, let’s take a look at these grades and what they each have to offer.
Consider Your Engine Options
Before we dig into the different trims, we should briefly mention the engine options available to you, because they’ll come up as we look at the various trims. The standard engine is an i-FORCE 2.4L turbocharged I-4 that can be tuned to deliver different levels of performance depending on the trim, so we’ll note those differences as we go along. For enhanced power, there’s an i-FORCE MAX version of this engine available, which uses hybrid technology to boost performance. Some of these models are available with either engine, but some are restricted.
SR
The Toyota Tacoma’s starting trim, the SR, is perfect if you like to keep things simple and want a midsize pickup you can count on. This grade features the standard i-FORCE engine tuned to deliver 228 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. You can also get this grade with a six-speed manual, available only with 4WD and the five-foot bed.
You can choose a small XtraCab for the SR model that comes with a six-foot bed, or a larger Double Cab with more passenger room and a five-foot bed. We love the freedom this provides, and it’s not something you’ll find on a lot of other midsize trucks. Inside, you’ll find fabric seating with a six-way driver’s seat, plus simple standard features like mounted controls on the steering wheel, a Smart Key System for the driver’s door, and Push Button Start. An eight-inch infotainment display is standard along with a four-speaker sound system in the XtraCab or six speakers in the larger Double Cab.
SR5
Moving up to the SR5 grade, we find many similar options alongside several enhancements. The SR5 comes with the i-FORCE engine tuned to provide 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, with only the automatic transmission available. You can still choose between RWD or 4WD. Both the XtraCab and Double Cab are offered for the Tacoma, along with 17-inch wheels like the SR. You get some nice upgrades here, like the Smart Key System on both the driver and front-passenger doors, plus an auto-dimming day/night rearview mirror. More options are offered that you can’t get on the SR, like a leather-trimmed steering wheel and heated front seats.

TRD PreRunner
Next up, we have the first of four TRD models. While they all have that in their name, there are some substantial differences between them. The PreRunner has the same engine as the SR5, but it is only offered with the XtraCab and a six-foot bed, with RWD and an automatic limited-slip differential for enhanced performance. You get massive 32-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires on this truck, plus a front suspension lift, so it is great for getting around in a wide range of conditions. The fabric-trimmed seating remains standard, although you’ll find upgrades like a leather-trimmed steering wheel, automatic climate control, and a gorgeous 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster display.
TRD Sport
The TRD Sport offers many options the TRD PreRunner lacks, including your choice of XtraCab or Double Cab, RWD or 4WD, and a manual or automatic transmission. We should note that the previous three models we looked at all have leaf-spring rear suspensions, while the TRD Sport and the rest feature coil springs for a smoother ride. This is also the first model that’s available with the i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine, though only with the automatic transmission. You get 18-inch TRD Sport alloy wheels on this model, while the interior offers many of the same features as the PreRunner, with more options, such as a moonroof, SofTex-trimmed seating, and a larger infotainment display.
TRD Off-Road
As its name suggests, this is a great choice for a midsize truck for off-road use. It offers a choice of both engines, with the manual transmission available for the i-FORCE engine. You get Bilstein monotube shocks with piggyback reservoirs on this model, while off-road features like Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control take performance on the trail to the next level. The TRD Off-Road is offered with 17- or 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, plus you can get many of the same features found inside the TRD Sport. This is a fantastic choice if you know you want to head off-road, but you don’t need the intense capabilities of what’s to come.
Limited
If sophisticated features are most important to you, then the Limited grade is a terrific pick. The Double Cab, five-foot bed, and 4WD are all standard. This remarkable truck comes with 18-inch chrome-finished wheels and more chrome details along the exterior. Inside, you get incredibly comfortable SofTex-trimmed seating with eight-way power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats. A heated, leather-trimmed steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control are standard in the Limited, along with a head-up display, wireless charging pad, 14-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia display, and a 10-speaker JBL sound system for a remarkable drive each day.

Trailhunter
The first of two incredible off-road options, the Trailhunter is an amazing choice if you want to leave comfortable streets behind. This model is only available with the i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine that delivers 323 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, along with a high-mount air intake for the roughest trails. You get Old Man Emu 2.5-inch forged monotube position-sensitive shocks on this beast, with rear piggyback reservoirs, plus a high-clearance front bumper, rock rails, and a steel rear bumper to handle anything the trail throws at you. A set of 18-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch rugged-terrain tires and a lifted suspension provide ample ground clearance.
TRD Pro
Finally, the TRD Pro is the culmination of everything Toyota has put together with the Tacoma. Like the Trailhunter, you can only get this model with the hybrid engine and 4WD, plus it has 18-inch wheels and 33-inch rugged-terrain tires. You get 2.5-inch FOX Internal Bypass QS3 shocks on the TRD Pro with rear piggyback reservoirs, plus a lifted suspension for excellent ground clearance. This model features a TRD performance cold-air intake, making it perfect for all kinds of conditions. You even get exclusive IsoDynamic Performance front seats with contrast stitching and a dampening system for enhanced comfort on the roughest trails, taking your off-road experience to the next level.
