The Land Cruiser Is Back and Better Than Ever
We were a bit heartbroken a few years ago when Toyota announced that the legendary Land Cruiser would be discontinued here in the US following the 2021 model year. Fortunately, that was more of a hiatus than an end because, for the 2024 model year, the Land Cruiser has returned with a new design for a new generation.
As you look at a Toyota Land Cruiser for sale, you’ll quickly notice a lot has changed since we last saw it a few years ago. It’s a bit smaller now and has gorgeous new looks, though it remains one of the most sophisticated and powerful SUVs on the market.
Perhaps most exciting of all, its off-road capabilities make this Land Cruiser truly live up to its name, meaning it’s an amazing choice for hitting the trail, going to your favorite campsite, or leaving civilization behind for weeks at a time while overlanding. Let’s take a closer look at the stunning new 2024 Land Cruiser and what it has to offer…
New Looks, New Size
The first thing you’ll likely notice about the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser—particularly if you’re a longtime fan of this legendary model—is its smaller size. In the past, the Land Cruiser was a massive, full-size SUV that gave drivers a tremendous amount of room inside for passengers and cargo. Since the Sequoia has been Toyota’s spacious and gorgeously designed full-size SUV, there wasn’t a need for two large vehicles with so much overlap.
Today, the Land Cruiser is a midsize SUV that retains much of its older style (though its looks have certainly been updated) with a smaller size that’s perfect for what it’s meant to do. While there are some three-row models out there pretty close to midsize in design, the Land Cruiser is a true midsize option with two rows of seats. This ensures everyone has plenty of room to stretch out while still giving you a lot of space to load up with the things you need to bring along.
The all-new Land Cruiser is gorgeous inside and out, with a bold exterior design that catches the eye and perfectly speaks to the kind of power and capability that Toyota has engineered this beast to deliver. And yet, it doesn’t look harsh or brutalist in design; instead, it beautifully combines powerful angles with just the right amount of curves to turn heads and let others know you’re driving something special.

Bold Power and Performance
Not every midsize SUV is designed and built with tremendous performance under its hood—but not every midsize SUV is as iconic as the Land Cruiser.
At the heart of this beast is an incredible 2.4L i-FORCE MAX turbocharged hybrid engine that yields incredible performance. This powertrain delivers 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque and comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. That tremendous power ensures you will have a fantastic experience every time you get behind the wheel.
Despite the incredible power the Land Cruiser brings to the road, it’s also a very efficient option, so you can go a long time without stops for gas; you get an estimated 23 MPG combined, which is perfect for many drivers—and that figure is in standard four-wheel drive!
If you’re looking to take a boat or camper with you while heading outdoors, then you’ll be in good shape with the 6,000-lb maximum towing capacity of this beauty. That’s terrific power that can handle just about anything you need and ensure you have a great time on (and off) the road.
Incredible Off-Road Capability
As we said earlier, the all-new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is an amazing choice for heading off-road, with terrific features designed to handle just about anything the trail can throw at you. For starters, every trim comes with full-time four-wheel drive (4WD), which gives you fantastic control and traction in a wide range of situations.
With an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case, you can still adjust the kind of power and torque you need for a given situation, and the 4WD system sends continuous power to both the front and rear axles. Plus, available Multi-Terrain Select lets you adjust traction for different types of terrain while Crawl Control automatically adjusts throttle and brakes for you so you can focus on steering.
Helping you go further than most other midsize SUVs out there are the electronically locking rear and center differentials. With the push of a button, you can control where power is sent to boost traction when you need it and navigate pretty much any obstacle or tricky bit of terrain.
One of our favorite things about the 2024 Land Cruiser is the Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism that’s available. Once activated, this improves wheel articulation for rocky trails and difficult areas that other vehicles wouldn’t be able to navigate comfortably.
Like many other elements of the Land Cruiser’s off-road performance, it’s under your control so you can get the right drive, whether you’re running errands around town, hitting the highway for a long road trip, or having an adventure while tearing up your favorite trail.

Advanced Safety Tech
Having a sense of adventure and desire to go further with your SUV doesn’t mean you have to be reckless about it. The 2024 Land Cruiser is the perfect example of this since it comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 standard in every trim, ensuring you’re as safe as possible at all times.
This suite of advanced safety tech includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, which has an audio/visual forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking to help you avoid a potential crash. You also get Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control as part of this safety package, which is an adaptive cruise control system that maintains a preset distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you while adjusting your speed automatically.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 includes a Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, which detects lane markings and the edge of the road, then warns you if you seem to be drifting from your lane, and it’ll provide gentle corrective steering to help you stay in your lane. This tech is combined with Lane Tracing Assist, which helps you stay centered in your lane while the cruise control system is engaged.
You get Road Sign Assist, too, which uses the forward-facing camera to recognize road signs—including speed limits, stop signs, and more—and then provides information about those signs on your driver display. Automatic High Beams switch off when oncoming traffic is detected to avoid blinding other drivers and then switch back on after passing. Proactive Driving Assist uses cameras and radar to provide gentle braking and steering support to help with distance control between you and other vehicles and for taking curves more smoothly.
Are You Ready to Experience an Automotive Legend?
Although we love everything about the modern Toyota lineup, the return of the Land Cruiser—with an all-new design and incredible features inside and out—has us even more excited for the 2024 model year. This is the perfect option if you’re looking for a vehicle to take you on your next outdoor adventure; its size and design are ideal for most families, and it provides a comfortable ride throughout the week while still having the chops to tackle challenging trails on the weekend.
Honestly, it’s everything we had hoped for when word first leaked that Toyota was bringing the Land Cruiser back! They’ve delivered exactly what we’ve been looking for in a midsize SUV, and we couldn’t be happier.
